Floors and fittings covered, edges masked, then defects patched, filled and sanded until the walls read flat.
Drop sheets go down, edges are masked and furniture is moved or covered before any sanding or painting starts.

Once fit-out is done, the walls, doors, architraves and skirtings get their finish coats in premium trade paint.
The finish on a sprayed door depends on the prep time behind it. Recent jobs include a run of internal doors and a front door, both sprayed.

The order changes with the job. Here is how the two most common ones run.
On a new build
Before fit-out
With nothing in the way, the whole house is sprayed out: walls and ceilings undercoated, and ceilings taken through to their top coats. It is the fastest point in the build to get an even, full-coverage base.
After fit-out
Once cabinets, doors and trims are installed, the walls get their finish coats and the woodwork is done. Knocks and marks from the other trades are patched and touched up at the same time.
On a repaint

Dark to white
A recent repaint took a bedroom from a dark grey-blue back to a clean white. Dark colours need enough coats to stop them ghosting through, so the job is planned for that from the start.
